" LOST "
Acrylic / Oil on canvas
24 x 36
Ship figureheads are carvings which embellished ships threw out the centuries. They were believed to please the gods to ensure a safe voyage.
These carvings go as far back to the Viking ships and came in many sizes and shapes.
The ships crew being very superstitious felt more at ease with a good luck charm which would protect them from dangerous storms and even death.
If they lost their lives at sea without protection, it was believed their souls would haunt the sea for eternity.

I was looking for some inspiration and was so inspired by these great carvings and history of the sea I decided
to add a little drama to my next painting. I'm a big fan of mermaids and so many people are mesmerized by the stories of these beautiful creatures, it made a perfect project for me. " LOST " captures a moment which we all feel some what uncomfortable, add the darkness of night and a fog to make matters worse. The light symbolizes HOPE that we arrive at our destination.
